It is not clear if the Switch's hardware limitations are the reason for Versus Evil's decision to no longer bring Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire to Nintendo's hybrid console. Versus Evil cited the Switch's hardware as the reason for this decision, stating it had, "reached a limit on what we can do with our updates to the game and have exhausted the options left to us from the PC original in regards to the limitations of the hardware we are working with". However, in February of last year, the publisher announced it would no longer be releasing any more updates for its Switch version of the game. Meanwhile, in 2019, it was revealed that Obsidian's original Pillars of Eternity would be coming to the Switch. Immerse yourself in a deeper single player RPG game experience. It was first announced that Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire would be coming to the Switch all the way back in 2018. "Hey there! Publisher Versus Evil announced its plans to cancel its Switch version of the game on Discord. Initially slated for 2018, the release received a delay late last year until some point in 2019, but a solid date has not yet been announced.For those patiently waiting to hear more about Obsidian's RPG Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire and its arrival on the Nintendo Switch, there's bad news: it is no longer coming. This release comes ahead of the game’s sequel, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, launching on all console platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Answers regarding another potential issue, performance, can be gleaned from the trailer (below) which appears to show the game performing admirably, though things such as loading times remain to be seen. The original Pillars of Eternity is already on console, on PS4 and Xbox One, which answers one major question regarding how the game will control without a mouse and keyboard. All major updates to the original PC version will also be a part of the release, which includes a raised level cap, expanded AI options for party members, and more difficulty levels. This edition includes the base game and the two-part DLC, White March: Part I and II. The series harkens back to older CRPGs, such as Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. It launched in 2015 to strong praise and eventually garnered a sequel, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, which was also crowdfunded. Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded back in 2012 on Kickstarter, where it raised almost $4 million from over 70,000 backers. There doesn’t seem to be word on a physical version as of yet, so you’re going to have to set aside some room for the 15.8GB download. Alternatively, if you’re in mainland Europe, you can grab it for €49,99, while UK Switch owners can purchase it for £44.99. Pre-orders are already up on the Nintendo Switch eShop, where you can currently get a 20% discount on the game. The award-winning CRPG can be yours from August 8 for $49.99, in the US. On Friday, it was announced the title would be coming in the form of Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition. Obsidian Entertainment has partnered with the independent game publisher Versus Evil to bring the original Pillars of Eternity to the Nintendo Switch.
